Special Offer
Shackleton's Antarctica Cruise with Travelsphere. Let us take you on a fantastic voyage of discovery to the world’s last great wilderness, once the preserve of intrepid pioneers and explorers. Enjoy the comfort of life on board ship as you journey through some of the most evocative coastal and island regions in the world.
This is a wonderful adventure to an area that is still largely undiscovered by tourism, combined with visits to the difficult-to-reach Falkland Isles and South Georgia, two of the most remote communities in the world. You’ll learn about the fascinating history of both areas and see some of the surprisingly rich plant and wildlife, with many species unique to the region

Itinerary
DAY 1 – UK/Buenos Aires
Depart on your overnight flight to Buenos Aires.
DAY 2 – Buenos Aires
Arrive in Buenos Aires and transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay. You will enjoy a tour of the city en route. The capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires, is situated on the estuary of the River Plate and is considered to be the most elegant city in South America, often referred to as ‘The Paris of the Americas.’ You will see such famous sights as Plaza de Mayo, the La Boca District, renowned for its brightly painted houses and the Recoleta cemetery, famous for its beautiful family tombs and for being the burial place of Eva Peron.
DAY 3 – Buenos Aires
Board MS Fram for the start of your cruise
of Antarctica in the footsteps of Sir Ernest
Shackleton.
DAYS 4 TO 6 – Cruising at sea
Your fascinating journey takes you southwards along the coast of Argentina, en route to the Falkland Islands. There will be a number of talks on the wildlife and history of the islands in preparation for our arrival.
DAYS 7 & 8 – Falkland Islands
Consisting of two main islands and around 700 smaller ones, the Falkland Islands are found just 300 miles from the coast of Argentina. During your two days here, take the opportunity to join shore excursions that will introduce you to the incredible variety of wildlife on the islands, take a fascinating audio walking tour or perhaps even join a guided tour through the mountains to Long Island Farm, where the Watson family will demonstrate their traditional farming methods.
DAYS 9 & 10 – Cruising at sea
DAYS 11 & 12 – South Georgia
South Georgia, like the Falkland Islands, is a British Overseas territory. One of the places you can visit during your time here
is Grytviken Whaling Station, where you will find the grave of Sir Ernest Shackleton, who died aboard his ship just off the coast in 1922. There will also be plenty of opportunity to view the incredible range of wildlife found here – from seals and penguins to astounding bird life.
DAYS 13 & 14 – Cruising at sea
Your fascinating journey takes you onwards to Antarctica. There will be a number of talks on the wildlife and history of the islands in preparation for our arrival.
DAYS 15 TO 17 – Antarctica
Discover the mysterious ‘white continent’ as you experience this spectacular and pristine landscape for yourself. There will be plenty of opportunity for you to visit penguin colonies, see the majestic icebergs float by, watch seals basking in the sun and maybe spot passing whales. You’ll also learn more about Shackleton and other intrepid polar explorers such as Captain Robert F. Scott and Roald Amundsen – the Norwegian who famously beat Scott to the South Pole. Visit old abandoned whaling stations or research stations manned by scientists, cruise past idyllic bays filled with ice and admire the majestic landscapes to be found at every turn.
DAYS 18 & 19 – Drake Passage
Leaving the Antarctic Peninsula behind, return northwards to the southern tip of Argentina, crossing Drake Passage, named after Sir Frances Drake.
DAY 20 – Ushuaia & Buenos Aires
Disembark MS Fram in Ushuaia after breakfast and transfer to the airport for your flight to Buenos Aires, where you will stay overnight.
DAY 21 – Buenos Aires/UK
