The skiing is varied and appeals to all abilities but particularly intermediates who will love the wealth of blue and red runs. The ski schools have a good reputation and the gentle runs close to the village centres are ideal for learning on the first few days.

Beginners
Just about all the runs close to Ellmau are of a beginner and early-intermediate standard. The ski school has a great number of English-speaking instructors and the gentle runs allow beginners to progress with ease. In addition, we have organised ski storage at the bottom of the nursery slopes in Ellmau for Neilson guests who pre-book their equipment through us, making the first experience on the slopes a lot easier. The nursery slope in Scheffau is found in the village, but you will soon progress onto the gentle runs at the top of the Brandstal gondola.
Intermediates
With direct access to the Ski Welt ski circus, both Ellmau and Scheffau are ideal bases for the intermediate skier. There is an enormous variety of runs ranging from open, sunny runs up top, to broad, winding runs through trees on lower slopes. Some more testing, steeper terrain offers all levels a chance to improve technique.
Advanced
The direct link with the Ski Welt ski circus provides a wealth of opportunity for interesting skiing, especially at Söll and Hopfgarten where there are some long and challenging descents and also at the top of the Hohe Salve, where the runs are steeper than elsewhere in the circuit.
Snowboarding
The huge ‘Ski Welt’ area offers 250km of pistes, most of which are wide, open, cruisey-type runs ideal for perfecting technique. There is also a snowboard park, including various ramps and rails in the Westendorf area.
If you’re looking for a real taste of Austria, Ellmau or the charming village of Scheffau is the place. In both you’ll find a friendly, unpretentious atmosphere, relaxed, low-key après-ski and delicious, Tyrolean-style cuisine. Ellmau is bigger in size offering great facilities for children while Scheffau is a quieter base. Both resorts are ideal for mixed ability groups and families looking to make the most if the fantastic skiing oppurtunities.

About Neilson
We've been around for around 25 years. We started as two separate companies, one providing top-end ski holidays and the other taking people sailing in Greece. For around two decades we became better and better at putting together holidays, one company doing fun things in the snow, the other having adventures in the Med. Then, in 1999, Thomas Cook, who owned both companies, decided that it would make sense for us to join together. That was when the famous orange logo appeared, and Neilson as we know it came into existence.
