Itinerary
DAY 1 - Vancouver
Depart on your scheduled flight to Vancouver. On arrival transfer to your hotel for a three night stay.
DAY 2 - Vancouver
Vancouver has one of the most beautiful settings of any city in the world. It is surrounded by mountains, forests and beautiful islands. As Canada’s third largest city, it is a busy seaport and important centre for the fishing and timber industries. This morning you will depart on an included introductory half day tour of the city during which you will visit Chinatown, Gastown, the remarkable 1,000 acre Stanley Park with its famous totem poles and the magnificent harbour.
DAY 3 - Vancouver
There is certainly plenty to see and do in Vancouver. An optional half day excursion will be available on Vancouver’s Northshore featuring the spectacular Capilano suspension bridge and a cable car ride up Grouse Mountain for breathtaking views of the city and the snow-capped mountains of Washington State (America) and Vancouver Island. Perhaps the most popular optional excursion is to Victoria, capital of British Columbia, where much of its British Victorian heritage is still preserved. The full day trip includes a ferry across to the island, and visits the marvellous Butchart Gardens, Parliament Building and the fabled Empress Hotel.
DAY 4 - Kamloops
This morning you will board the wonderful Rocky Mountaineer train for the first leg of your spectacular rail journey across Canada, settling into your roomy reclining seat in air-conditioned comfort. An on-board commentary ensures that you will miss nothing as the train forges its way through the grandeur of the Rockies to Kamloops, where you will stay overnight.
DAY 5 - Jasper
Re-board the Rocky Mountaineer this morning and continue on your journey, travelling along the North Thompson River, crossing it several times. The train forges its way through the grandeur of the Rockies and past the snow-capped peaks of the Monashee Mountains en route to Jasper, where you will stay for three nights. As the train pulls into Jasper, keep an eye out for majestic Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Rockies.
DAYS 6 TO 7 - Jasper
This morning we include a sightseeing tour of Jasper, a former railroad town and now the focal point of its own breathtakingly beautiful national park. The tour takes you to the Pyramid and Patricia Lakes. This afternoon there is a wealth of optional excursions available to make the most of your stay. Choose from a nature walk, a gentle float trip on the Athabasca River, a cruise on Maligne Lake or a relaxing soak in the Miette Hot Springs.
DAYS 8 TO 10 - The Canadian Train
The morning of Day 8 is free in Jasper, before boarding The Canadian train in the afternoon for the start of your epic threeday, full board journey across the heartlands of Canada. On board, you will enjoy wonderful service and excellent food, as you relax and enjoy the passing scenery from the panoramic windows of the dining car. Journey through the prairies of the rugged state of Saskatchewan and the vast Great Central Plains, make a stop in the city of Winnipeg, an important trading post since the 19th century and then continue through the scenic lake lands of northern Ontario. You really will get a sense of the vastness of Canada and its supreme natural beauty.
DAY 11 - Toronto
After breakfast this morning, The Canadian arrives in the cosmopolitan city of Toronto, where you will stay for the next two nights. Toronto is a blend of ultra-modern and Victorian architecture, dominated by the 1,815ft high CN Tower. Before checking in to your hotel, we include a sightseeing tour, which takes us to the Rogers Centre, known formerly as the SkyDome, the Eaton Centre, the theatre district and Royal Ontario Museum. Why not take our optional trip to the top of the CN Tower before enjoying lunch (not included). This afternoon you are free to discover this fascinating city.
DAY 12 - Niagara Falls
Today we include a full day excursion to the breathtaking Niagara Falls, where you will have the opportunity to take a trip on the Maid of the Mist for spectacular views of the thundering falls (operates May – October only). You will also take a scenic journey through this pretty wine producing region, famous for its ice wine, and pay a visit to the delightful town of Niagara, which has given its name to the iconic falls.
DAY 13 - Toronto/UK
Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
DAY 14 - UK
Arrive in the UK.
