The Geilolia Ski centre (formerly known as Vestlia) provides the perfect environment for beginners and families with its award winning ski school, recently extended ski area and Neilson Snowman Club. Neilson operates daily transport to ski school and the Snowman Club on the Geilolia side of the valley. This service is complimentary and exclusive for Neilson guests. In addition, there is a resort run ski bus service operating in the mornings and afternoons and taxis are also available.
Christmas and New Year in Geilo
Expect an extra special programme of activities over Christmas and New Year in Geilo. Most hotels are visited by Santa Claus and his reindeer on Christmas Eve. You can arrange for your child to receive a gift when in resort by leaving your gift with the staff at reception. The resort also organise Christmas workshops and for New Year, fireworks. Please note that Christmas is celebrated on the 24th December in Scandinavia (this can affect local services, shops, restaurants etc). Also the ski centre closes early on Christmas Eve.

Snowboarding
Geilo has a specially designed terrain park including two excellent snowboard parks and a boarder-cross park, offering half-pipes, super-pipe, jumps and bumps.Geilo is a welcoming resort to both experienced and first-time snowboarders. Private instruction available.
Beginners
A wonderful environment for those skiers at the ‘delicate stage’. Many of the runs are extremely wide and uncrowded; perfect conditions to gain confidence. Ski instructors speak perfect English and have been working with beginners for many years to assure professional service at all times – no surprise then that they have been awarded our Marque of Excellence award two years running.
Intermediates
There are two skiing areas, the north facing Geilolia and new Kikut area and the south facing main ski area immediately behind the village, which has around 75% of the total skiing. Both areas are linked by a free ski bus in the mornings and afternoons. Many of the runs are wide and uncrowded cruising runs on the huge snow fields above the tree-line, ideal for improving your technique. There are also a variety of runs down to the village through the trees.
Advanced
Geilo has five black runs including a couple of testing mogul fields, however the resort does not claim to cater for the aggressive expert skier.

About Neilson
We've been around for around 25 years. We started as two separate companies, one providing top-end ski holidays and the other taking people sailing in Greece. For around two decades we became better and better at putting together holidays, one company doing fun things in the snow, the other having adventures in the Med. Then, in 1999, Thomas Cook, who owned both companies, decided that it would make sense for us to join together. That was when the famous orange logo appeared, and Neilson as we know it came into existence.

yes Sledding - There’s nothing like zipping through stunning scenery, driving your own team of dogs. More leisurely horse-drawn sleigh rides are also available. Give ice climbing a go - This 3hr lesson gives beginners an introduction to ice climbing. Everyone is taught how to use the equipment safely before embarking on a near vertical climb. The Fjords by rail - The Flåm Railway is an incredible train journey from the mountain station at Myrdal on the Bergen Railway, down to Flåm station nestled in the innermost corner of the Aurlandfjord, a branch of the world\'s longest fjord, the Sognefjord. The 20km train ride takes you through beautiful mountain and fjord scenery and is an unforgettable journey on one of the world\'s most spectacular railway lines. Skiing by night - If you can’t get enough of it, and your limbs can take it, Hemsedal ski centre opens some of the slopes closest to the ski base four nights a week.
